When Miranda Cook got in touch with me about a Soulful Shoot for her tarot business The Wootique, I was a HELL YEAH! Not only did she want to shoot in a colourful retro studio, she was up for some arty/ creative/ witchy shots too. Dream client… especially since I have a stack of tarot cards at home too!
Miranda has been reading tarot for thirty years and during lockdown found a community of tarot lovers on Instagram with a range of beautiful artist produced decks. She decided to start her metaphysical online shop as a way of reducing taxes and customs for UK tarot lovers. She loves supporting people through tarot readings to enable them to create a better vision of their future.
We started our shoot with Miranda pulling a tarot card (obviously!)… the Ace of Cups, a card all about love and compassion. A card which often appears in tarot readings when you are open to creative expression. Perfect! We were off to a good start.
Miranda had hired Retroglow Studios in Hackney Wick for our brand shoot which was super fun and 80s vibes! She wanted photographs for a PR launch in A/W, plus some shots to use across her website and on social media.
We played with portraits, scattered cards everywhere, created a dried flower circle for a reading, had fun with the light and using a prism to help create some cosmic effects on the images.
For the second part of our shoot, we found a spot in the Hackney Pearl cafe and ended up sitting beside Bex of Cosmic Cures… another tarot reader I’d met last year at a festival! Synchronicity right there. In the cafe, Miranda needed some more business type shots of her working on her laptop (she does email tarot readings mostly), wrapping tarot cards ready to be sent out, plus a few headshots outside. We found the perfect graffiti to match Miranda’s outfit!
